So a few weeks ago when my friend and I went to Shoreditch for a little food tasting day, we also visited What the Pitta! in the Boxpark in Shoreditch. Now as I mentioned before, it was easy for me to become vegetarian because I never really liked eating meat. I was excited however, to try this vegan kebab as I was curious to know what it would taste like.
What the Pitta can be found upstairs in the Boxpark and has a nice shared terrace where everyone can sit and enjoy the food from different restaurants. What the Pitta wants to bring vegan Döner and other Turkish inspired vegan treats to vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The founders created a true family franchise, aiming to bring a healthier and more ethical spin to a beloved British favourite.
I ordered the Vegan Döner, which is made of: ‘Freshly Made Bread, Spiced Soya Chunks, Mixed Salad, Tzatziki (Soya yogurt), Homemade Hummus and Chilli Sauce.’ I can honestly tell you this is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The soya is flavoured so well it looks, smells and tastes like the real thing- it’s absolutely amazing.
My friend that came with me likes my interest in vegan and vegetarian food and the fact that I am doing a blog, but she loves meat and eats it pretty much every day. I basically had to force her to try a bit and she did not wanna try it either, haha. When I finally got her to try it, she liked it as well and trust me, when she likes it, it is really is good!
I asked her if she would notice if I had given this to her and told her it was meat. She said she would notice the structure was different but the taste was so good she would not think it was vegan meat! So to What the Pitta, I think that is an amazing compliment to you!
I love visiting places like this and letting my friends experience vegan alternatives to meat, as this shows that it is so easy to eat vegetarian or to replace meat for a veggie option one day a week. Most people think eating vegetarian is difficult but it honestly can’t be any easier, being vegetarian does not mean you have to give up meaty foods you like. There are so many good veggie burgers, even fish fingers and now also kebab!
Everyone, vegan/vegetarian or meatlover, head to What the Pitta in Shoreditch, London, for amazing kebabs and Turkish pizzas! As you can see, people are queueing to get in the shop, so you won’t be disappointed! I can’t wait to come back !
