This nutty shake is one of my favorite breakfast shakes. I always have shakes or smoothies for breakfast because I like how convenient it is and the fact that it is easy to consume. I know most people give breakfast a miss because they feel a bit sick in the morning, don’t have an appetite or simply because they have no time. A shake in the morning solves all of these problems: you can prepare your smoothie the night before so it saves time in the morning, and you drink it on your way to work, school or wherever you are going.
For me shakes are good because I don’t really have too much of an appetite in the morning. If I had to eat a big bowl of yoghurt with granola in the morning for example I would not be able to finish it. A shake is easy to drink and you can put a lot of good things in it!
This nut and banana shake is perfect for a quick breakfast as it is easy to make (the blender does all the work!) and you don’t need that many ingredients. It is my favorite breakfast before a good workout as it quickly gives me energy and it is not too heavy.
For vegetarians it is important to eat a lot of nuts because of the nutrition and vitamins in them. Nuts provide energy, fiber, healthy fats and they are a quick source of protein. Peanuts and almonds are rich in zinc, vitamin E and omega 3, and almonds also contain calcium (Vegetarian Times). So always make sure to have a handful of nuts a day, whether it is blended in a smoothie, or adding an extra bite to your salad or main course, it will help you get all the nutrition you need- and it’s tasty!
Ingredients (makes 1 shake)
- 1 banana
- 240ml almond milk
- 60g oats
- tablespoon peanut butter
- teaspoon coco powder
- pinch of cinnamon
- handful almond shavings
also needed: blender
- add all the ingredients to the blender and mix until all the ingredients are blended into a smooth shake.
